In Douglas’s convoluted 24th feline noir (after 2011’s Cat in a Vegas Gold Vendetta), Las Vegas public relations expert Temple Barr, now engaged to media star Matt Devine, takes PI Midnight Louie with her to meet Matt’s family in Chicago, where Louie is kidnapped on arrival. Back in Vegas, Temple’s ex, magician Max Kinsella, is slowly regaining his memory, as Lt. Carmen Molina enlists Max’s help in solving a string of murders she suspects he committed. Max still isn’t clear on the players, but Midnight Louise, Louie’s “erstwhile daughter,” keeps an eye on him. Add Kitty “the Cutter” O’Connor, who’s still stalking our heroes; a family wedding Matt and Temple must plan; and a possible return of the sinister magicians’ group the Synth; and you have all the ingredients for a “cat-astrophe.” Series fans will have fun following all the twists and turns. Agent: Howard Morhaim, the Howard Morhaim Agency.
