A tight plot and fascinating characters make Callihan’s sixth Darkest London historical paranormal (after Evernight) her best to date. Feisty American Eliza May is killed in London; Adam—leader of the GIM, a group of people saved from death—finds her corpse and restores her to life. Eliza is Adam’s soul mate, the one he has spent more than 700 years waiting for. But their route to a happy ending is fraught with peril: there are many people, including Eliza’s evil grandmother and great-uncle, who want to destroy the GIM and its members. The power of Adam and Eliza’s bond may not be enough to overcome the evil forces they face. It’s easy to get delightfully lost in Callihan’s story; her masterly prose immediately pulls the reader into the deeply detailed universe she’s created. Callihan ably lays the groundwork for the next installment, which readers will hungrily await.
